Sellout

Set The Music Free is back in operation after that slight hiatus!

So, some have asked about the origins of the blog's title. The answer?

This song:

The song is written by an amazingly talented acoustic/Indie pop artiste, Christofer Drew Ingle, better known by his stage name: NeverShoutNever (NSN).
Coming a long way from his first EP, "The Yippee EP", NSN has gone on to release his debut mini-album, "What Is Love", in 2009.

Of course, not many artistes have the guts to freely express themselves, and this is where NSN rises above the rest. His song, Sellout, speaks of his unhappiness with the corporations and their interference in artistic expression. The lyrics of the song also refer to his history as a high school dropout, and with strong lyrics like, "What the hell have I been thinking? I sold my soul to the corporations.", it is impossible to ignore the message behind it.
His other songs have been very enjoyable on a personal level. His lyrics and tunes are catchy and, at the same time, relate-able. And yes, I would go as far as to say his music does work as a form of "healing". I'd definitely recommend his songs to someone who had just gone through a breakup, relationship crises, or someone who is simply searching for some easy listening.

Last year, Christofer announced that he would be dropping the "NeverShoutNever" moniker because he is "sick of this band and the negative connotations with the band."and he is planning to switch genres to "start over and start something new. I think people have the wrong idea about us. I want to bust out the Stratocaster (electric guitar) and play some feel-good sh*t."
Although not really looking forward to his new venture into rock, I'd still give it a chance. If not, his acoustic stuff is still widely available on YouTube and his MySpace page.

On a side note, do check out his side project, EatMeWhileI'mHot. Not really my cup of tea... But who knows? One of you may acquire a taste for it.

Until next time, SET THE MUSIC FREE!
